Elegant + Simple Christmas Decorating Ideas
Don’t miss these elegant yet simple Christmas decorating ideas which make up part 2 of the Elegant + Simple Holiday Home Tour! If you missed it, catch part 1 of the Elegant + Simple Holiday Home Tour here.
What began as the Elegant + Simple Holiday Home Tour part 2 quickly devolved into super simple (yet elegant 😉 ) Christmas decorating ideas.
Why? Because I thought you might find it more helpful than a room-by-room tour. Plus, my home is NOT decked from head to toe and tied with a perfect bow. Instead, I’d like to say that it’s imperfectly sprinkled with holiday cheer. Just enough in each space to make me smile and remind me of the joy that’s coming with the advent of our Savior.

5 ideas for ELEGANT + SIMPLE Christmas decor
1. Put a wreath on it
I feel like that’s my mantra this year… Need a festive feel? Put a wreath on it.
Whether it’s your front porch, your office, your kitchen, or your living room, a simple holiday wreath adds instant cheer for the holiday season.
It doesn’t have to be red and green or decorated with candy canes, greenery is sufficient.
Or you can add some jingle bells like I did on this front door wreath for an extra festive touch.
2. Hang garland
My go-to holiday decorating idea is always garland: garland on the mantel…
And garland on the stairs are staples in our holiday home.
This year I even added some to the china cabinet in our dining room.
3. Add some ribbon
Probably the easiest way to change the look of your holiday decor affordably is to add some holiday ribbon. In the past, I’ve used satin and grosgrain ribbon, but this year I chose a couple of colors of vintage velvet ribbon… And I’m in love.
It’s perfect on the Christmas trees as a simple garland and, of course, for gift wrapping.
And I love a loose bow tucked into the corner of the trailing garland on our fireplace mantel and hung on the banister.
You can also add it to any wreath for a sweet holiday touch.
4. Wrap with lights
If you’ve followed along for very long, you probably know that Christmas lights are basically my favorite thing. I have this big Christmas Nights tour every year (can’t wait to share this year’s tour!) where I show our home all lit up at night.
There’s something magical about Christmas lights even in the daytime, though.
I like to add them to any garland I use, weaving them around and through the greenery.
I even love adding a little copper wire of fairy lights when greenery would just get in the way.
5. Light a candle
I’m actually not a year-round candle girl. I generally don’t like strong scents and don’t even think about candles 9 months of the year… Then autumn arrives and it instantly makes your home feel like magic.
I like cozy scented candles in my living room, dining room, kitchen, and office.
And I love using unscented tapers as part of mantels and table decorations (more of this scene coming to you soon 😉 ).
In short, a little firelight just adds to the holiday magic.

Rachel I love the simplicity of your decor. I made the wood bead garland and love it. Thank you for sharing ideas.

Hello Rachel,
Where can I find the wood vase on your coffee table?
Thank you kinldy
Hi there! I’ll admit that I love that vase, but it is hard to find it in stock. Here is one that has a beautiful wood base (affiliate): https://rstyle.me/cz-n/ea8cjgb5bux
Hi! I love the dark charcoal/navy blue color on the base cabinets in the kitchen. Can you please tell me where those cabinets are from and what color that is?
Hi Dominque! You can get the full reveal here: https://www.maisondepax.com/gray-white-marble-kitchen-reveal/
The cabinets are Kraftmaid in Dove White and Greyloft.
