Elegant + Simple Holiday Home Tour
Need Christmas decorating ideas? Don’t miss this holiday home tour with beautiful greenery and other elegant yet simple Christmas decor.
I shared a few weeks ago that I was feeling a bit moody about Christmas… Ok, I admit, that’s not exactly what I said. 😉 Actually, I was just having fun gathering elegant yet simple Christmas decor with a touch of rich moody blue. Ready to see how it came together?
Welcome to this year’s Seasonal Simplicity holiday home tour (hosted by my sweet friend Krista from The Happy Housie). If you’re visiting from the tour, welcome! Today I’m sharing my living room, stairwell, and dining room decked for the holidays.
My name is Rachel, and I live in Texas with my hubby and four kids. They love decorating with me, so our decorating usually takes several weeks (so everyone can have a turn) and often changes throughout the month as various children decide something might look better somewhere else – ha!
This time, as usual, it’s a mix of things I created while they were at school and other more “collaborative” efforts. 😉 I typically avoid the traditional red and green, and this year was no different. Get ready for greens, golds, and deep moody blues. I hope you enjoy!

Christmas Living Room Decorating Ideas
This is always the room that gets the most holiday cheer since it houses both of our big Christmas trees as well as one side of our see through fireplace.
I gave the mantel an asymmetrical look this year (get the tutorial here), and I love it.
The tree got a mixture of gold and amber metallics along with my DIY wood bead garland.
Some simple pine wreaths and cedar clippings from our yard for the coffee table completed the look.
Christmas Stairwell Decorating Ideas
I love rearranging my Christmas decor from year to year to keep things fresh. Originally, I bought this pre lit garland for our front porch, but the battery-operated lights make it an easy choice for the banister, too.
I wish I had ordered more of the antique gold velvet ribbon that I used on the fireplace and tree, but this muted pewter velvet ribbon is also beautiful. I love using ribbon as an inexpensive way to change up holiday decor each year. And gold bells might be my other favorite versatile holiday decor.
Our curved staircase is just inside our front door and perfect for a tall, slender tree. This one was so fun to decorate with the kids (you can see the process here on Instagram if you’d like).
When they found these little wooden houses, they decided we needed a “little town of Bethlehem” on the tree… and I love how it turned out.
Christmas Dining Room Decorating Ideas
We actually homeschool in the “formal” dining room, so I have to keep the table fairly clear. I did that this year by simply adding some black candlesticks and this pretty wooden bowl with greenery.
More asymmetrical garland and a few twinkle lights bring a festive mood without crowding the space.
Simple – yet elegant – is the name of the game this year!
