Eclectic Office Makeover
I started strong last year with a tour of my entryway and living room… then I got sidetracked by the master bath, attic, and nursery. But a new year school is a new start, and I’m determined to stay on track. Plus (as you may have seen on instragram), I found a fabulous new desk chair for a great deal. It was just what I needed to “finish” my industrial, classic, chic – in a word – eclectic office.
My vintage file cabinet (one of my favorite makeovers ever – find the tutorial here) holds my files at bay.
And I love how it looks next to my beautiful rustic desk that Mr. Pax gave me for Christmas a few years ago.
Some of you maybe be wondering: what happened to that gorgeous, amazing, awesome white planked desk you shared on Monday? (And yes, you all speak in outrageous superlatives in my head. 😉 ) Well, I’m so glad you asked! That desk resides in the attic, and my children reside on the ground floor for the most part. So crafty projects that need to be kept away from little hands are perfect in the attic, but for Mama’s regular computer space, Mama has to be a little closer to the action. This room is actually a passthrough from our foyer to the kitchen and dining room.
As you can see, my other new favorite chair (a Craigslist find last week!) sits in the corner for anyone who wants to sit a spell (and it hides the printer which sits in the bottom corner of those bookshelves – perfect!).
In another effort to hide office supplies, I keep this basket next to my desk. It provides a little open file storage (without eating desk space) and helps hide the computer cords.
And those, by the way, are definitely what I would call sexy desk legs, wouldn’t you? I also swoon over my chandelier – something I snagged out of the first home we ever owned.
These bookcases received a major makeover last Christmas (see the details here), and they are now my catch-all decor. I styled them once, and since then they just change around depending on what I’m using elsewhere. Whenever I need to change out something elsewhere, I shop the library shelves for old books, vases, candles, etc. And when I’m tired of something somewhere else, I just find an empty spot here. Does anyone else have an area like that?
I love our little mock fireplace…
And my instagram display frame.
I love how the shelves are filled with memories, too. I know this sounds corny, but I can daydream of my wedding day, my grandmother’s home (where that statue used to sit), wonderful stories I’ve read, trips we’ve taken and more… just by swiveling my desk chair.
Speaking of my desk chair, I love the juxtaposition of the sleek, modern chair with the rustic, textured desk… and it is SO comfortable!!
This room has been a long time in coming, but I must say that I am very pleased with the result. So I’ll leave you with a few more pictures and a promise to answer any questions you may have!
