I’ve shared before some of the treasures left behind by the previous owners of Little Pax Ranch… and now we can add to the list galvanized tubs. And while they’re a bit rustic for my interior taste, I thought they were perfect for creating some simple fall planters on our farmhouse front porch this year.

I shared the full porch reveal (and some super easy fall front porch decorating ideas) on the blog last week, and I received several questions about creating a fall floral arrangement like this… so I thought I’d share how to make your own.

How to Create Farmhouse Fall Porch Planters

Time needed: 10 minutes

A floral arrangement in galvanized tubs makes beautiful, simple farmhouse fall decor.

  1. Stack a smaller tub upside down inside a larger one

The principle is the same as this favorite centerpiece I created. A smaller container inside a larger one not only lessens the space you need to fill, it gives you the ability to secure the stems in place.smaller galvanized tub inside a larger for porch planter | Maison de Pax

  2. Fill in the space between the tubs with faux florals and yard clippings

You could also fill the bottom with water and actually use cut fall flowers, but I was going for no maintenance on this one… so I started with faux floral stems in fall colors and filled in with grasses and other clippings from the yard that I knew would dry without wilting.woman filling galvanized tub with fall florals for front porch | Maison de Pax

  3. Stack pumpkins on the smaller tub

To cover the upside down tub and to fill your space, stack some pumpkins in the center. Faux or real, it helps to remove the stem of the one on the bottom so the higher one(s) can rest securely.purple and gold flowers with green and white pumpkins front porch planter | Maison de Pax

  4. Feel free to leave the back half empty

Could I have filled the entire outer tub? Sure. Did I need to? Definitely not. From almost every angle, the tub seems full… Only by standing in the doorway and leaning directly over the tub could I see that the back half is not filled. The empty space didn’t bother me, but you could always fill it with florals or cover it with more pumpkins and gourds if you’d rather.galvanized tub filled with autumn florals and pumpkins | Maison de Pax

Farmhouse Style Fall Porch

See? Fall porch decor doesn’t have to be complicated. 🙂 This fall outdoor floral arrangement will last all season in our outdoor space (even in our crazy heat down here in Texas). I just love the pop of color it brings to our farmhouse porch with its rocking chairs, porch swing, and black front door.

As far as front porch flower arrangements go, I’m loving the simplicity. I love how the yard clippings give it a wild flower look, while the vibrant faux florals will stay looking strong throughout the autumn.
