Maison de Pax Home Tour: The Entry

I’m determined to start a tour series… I cannot seem to get more than one or two rooms photo worthy at any one time (can I get an Amen from any other moms out there?!?), so rather than a full house tour, I’m going to ease you into Maison de Pax – one room at a time.

So in the timeless words of The Sound of Music:

“Let’s start at the very beginning.
It’s a very good place to start.”
I give you the entry (please remember, it’s a work in progress!):

Here is what it looked like before (forgive the crooked picture; this was from the listing of our home… I forgot to take any myself!):

You can see the brick outside (from before our facade makeover), and you may recognize that chandelier from my dining room now.  Though our ceilings downstairs are rather high, Mr. Pax unfortunately hits his head on it, so it had to go over a table.  I thought this vintage chandelier (which we took with us from our last home) went perfectly in the space.

From our entry, you can look to the right towards the library (aka my office):

Or to the left towards the living room (though I don’t have a full photo shoot of that room completed, you can see some pictures here):

The entry itself houses merely a coat closet, the stairwell, and a table.  Since the family enters through the back door, we don’t need mudroom-style functionality here, thankfully.

The stairwell is guarded by a custom baby gate Mr. Pax built that matches the paneled doors in our home.  It may not be glamorous, but it’s a short-term necessity and certainly better than a plastic one!

The entry table (like most decor in my home) is ever changing.  For now, though, I am using the antique art deco dressing table that belonged to a distant cousin of mine (you can read more about her here).  I admit, though, that just this week my three-year-old pulled out one of the drawers and almost smashed his toe… it might find another home soon (and please, ignore the fingerprints and my reflection in this photo… sometimes it’s just not worth a re-shoot!).

Though this table may change next week tomorrow, you can see a few things I love in decorating: old books, contrasts, shiny objects (yes, I am apparently part magpie), neutral colors, and texture.

Before I go, a quick source list for you:
-wall color: Barcelona Beige by Sherwin Williams
-rug: Overstock.com
-lamp: Homegoods
-birdcage: Hobby Lobby
-small square frame: Pottery Barn
-large frame: family antique, but here are some suggestions if you’d like to paint a similar one
-all the rest (books, box, large frame, chandelier) are antiques… sorry I don’t have sources for those!

So, what do you think??  Hope you enjoyed “comin’ in for a minute”… Any questions, let me know!

Did you enjoy that?
