Is there anything better?
Sometimes I think the precious joys of life – snuggles with my loved ones, baby tooth smiles, squeals of laughter, tickle fights – are all that matters.
And, of course, they do reign supreme.
But this young mama is here to attest that they are so much more enjoyable after a good night’s sleep.
Am I right?
When Spindle Mattress contacted me to ask if I would like to review one of their all natural latex mattresses, my husband and I had just discussed the possibility of replacing our 15 year old mattress mere weeks before. Of course, we were also about to move and rather overwhelmed by life.
But Spindle Mattress made it easy. They helped me decide which firmness was right for us, and they shipped the mattress straight to our door in three boxes. Those boxes got thrown on the moving truck with all the rest and unpacked right into our bedroom at our new house.
A unique aspect of Spindle – and one reason why they are able to offer natural latex mattresses at a fraction of the cost of other retailers – is the fact that you assemble it yourself. Those three boxes reveal a cover and three layers of natural latex with easy to follow instructions for assembly.
There was a problem with the fit of the original cover they sent me (it was a king, while our bed is a queen), but I contacted Spindle and the correct cover arrived just two days later (and the king cover worked just fine in the meantime). And even after moving furniture and boxes, arranging, rearranging, and rearranging again (because, as you know, that’s what I do in my house 😉 ), I slept well.
I woke up without back pain.
And what you may not know is that I’ve been struggling ever since my last pregnancy with a bulging disk and subsequent lower back pain. I’m no doctor, and I’m not promising that it would work for everyone, but I am always pleased by a good night’s sleep.
Just a few more things you might want to know if considering a Spindle natural latex mattress:
With organic cotton, pure wool, and TFI certified latex, your mattress will be free of harmful substances, including heavy metals, pesticides, and known carcinogens. Sadly, that is not true of all other mattresses.
A latex mattress cannot be used with a box spring. You will need slats (enough to give it firm support), a platform, or a foundation (a wood structure that looks similar to a box spring). It took us some time playing with the slats (and adding more) before we found the right support for our new mattress.
Our bed frame is not made for something that low, and we originally planned to make or buy a foundation once we determined it was the right mattress for us… but I’m kind of liking the lower bed.
We may or may not have had to stuff an extra pillow in the gap under the headboard to keep our pillows from falling back there… but of course no one knows that but us.
And you now. Oops. 😉
It’s working for now, and my littlest (who can now climb up without assistance) is loving it.
But a mattress is a very personal thing… in more ways than one. I do love the natural aspect of these, though, and the price. If you are considering a natural latex mattress, go see how Spindle Mattress manages to keep the prices low, even while manufacturing entirely in the US.
Whatever you decide, I hope you have a really good night’s sleep… And that your rest enables you to enjoy those things that really matter.
Disclosure: I was given a mattress by Spindle Mattress for review, but as always, opinions, text, and desperate need for a good night’s sleep are entirely my own. You can read my full disclosure policy here.
