Spring Kitchen and Master Bedroom Decorating Ideas

Simple, neutral, lovely spring kitchen and master bedroom decorating ideas plus 5 tips for easy spring decor. A special thanks to Homegoods for providing product for these spaces!

___________

I have to admit, I kind of feel like superwoman today.

The house might not still look quite as lovely as it did when I took these pictures for you (or not even close – ha!), but spring has sprung: baseball is in full swing, the wisteria is blooming, and the house is filled with its intoxicating smell.

Oh, and it’s spring break. Which for this homeschooling mama is like pure gold. 😉

And I’m thrilled to be joining my sweet friend Rachel from Shades of Blue Interiors and other talented bloggers today, along with Homegoods and Country Living Magazine, for the Cozy Spring Home Tour.

And while I still have a nursery to design and decorate and a bathroom renovation to complete before our newest addition arrives in May, I can honestly say that our home is feeling peaceful these days.

The dining room (see the full tour here) may have Dora books and five million markers added to the mix most days, but the simple succulents are still serving perfectly as a centerpiece and bringing a little green life into the space.

This French farmhouse inspired dining room is all set for spring; use these simple spring decorating ideas to get your space ready in no time.

The living room (see the full tour here) may have a pile of throw pillows on the floor where wrestling practice took place, but the copper pitcher with grocery store flowers is still glowing.

This casually elegant living room is all set to go for spring! Use these simple spring decorating ideas to get your home ready for spring.

The back porch (see the full tour here) may have an extra baseball bat or two, but the plants are still alive and the spring breeze is still blowing the curtains happily.

There is nothing quite as wonderful as soaking up the spring sunshine on a beautiful patio. Don't miss these spring patio decorating ideas!

I’m not sure there’s anything to match the incredible beauty of spring, but I am excited to share with you two more spaces in our home – our kitchen and master bedroom – and below I have some basic tips to help you try to capture some of that serenity and loveliness in your home…

Thank you to Homegoods for providing gift cards for use in these spaces!

First up, our newly renovated kitchen.

I am still smitten by this space each day. All it needed was some touches of green and pops of color to make it fresh and lively for spring.

Our master bedroom is still a work in progress…. It always seems to be the last space in the house that I actually get around to addressing. But I am excited about a few little changes I’ve made already and some bigger plans I have in the coming months.

The biggest new addition is this beautiful, neutral wool rug from Homegoods. It’s soft, luscious, and simply divine to step on when getting out of bed in the morning. I feel like it definitely makes our room cozier.

And the new little seating area with the mirror I redid a few years ago was the perfect spot for this beautiful beach glass vase, also from Homegoods. By moving the dresser to the other corner, I opened up this spot for reading, working, or simply resting in our own space.

The dresser was free to move because I decided to claim the antique sewing machine that used to sit there as my bedside table. I need to refinish it in some way, but so far I’m liking it here.

And that, my friends, is our home (or at least the parts I bothered to clean up for you 😉 ). Before I go, though, I want to offer you a few practical tips to help you dress your home for spring. Truly, my home is not usually this immaculate, but even when filled with toys and schoolbooks, it still has a sweet, spring vibe…

And here are the things I think can help create that:

1. Clear out the clutter.
Let your spring cleaning work for you! If you’d like a step-by-step challenge to refresh your home for spring, you can sign up for my free email challenge here (just 5 FREE emails with do-able challenges to freshen up your home for spring!). There is something fresh, clean, and simple about open spaces this time of year.

2. Lighten things up.
I’m sure my regular readers are laughing because I pretty much choose white year round… but this time of year especially it just fits the bill. Lighter pillows, throws, dishes, and bedding allow for the seasonal touches to shine and the crisp, clean feeling to linger… even after your kids have added their messes to the space. 😉

3. Bring a few potted plants indoors.
If you’ve got some year-round pots, they’re likely indoors anyway to help them survive the winter. But if they’re not, bring them in. I love to purchase inexpensive potted herbs from the local grocery each spring and enjoy them in pots in my home for a while before moving them out to the herb garden in the backyard.

4. Accent focal points with fresh flowers and produce.
For years I didn’t really purchase fresh flowers because I hated the idea of spending money on something that I knew would die soon… But I’ve realized that a little bit can go a long way (especially if you find an affordable flower source and supplement with inexpensive greens or clippings from your yard), and by placing the flowers front and center, you get a big impact in your home. And fresh fruit is, of course, inexpensive and consumable. Win!

5. Clip anything pretty you can find.
I’m a neutral girl at heart, but spring is the one time that I bring bright pops of purples, pinks, oranges, and more. And the frugal side of me just adores when I can find it all for free. The wisteria is from my backyard, and the redbud is from the side of the road. Bring it all in!

I hope you enjoyed this tour and all my spring tours this year. I felt like I needed a fully documented report of our home before the chaos of baby #4 (and the subsequent maternity time off I’m planning to take) distracts me from the blog for a bit. And I hope you are encouraged that a cozy, peaceful, cheery home is not dependent on fancy decorations or stylish perfection.

And that you might feel a little like superwoman today, too. 😉

  5. Rachel, seriously – in my humble little ole’ opinion you are the very best photographer in blogdom. My word you are good.

Yes it helps having such beautiful around you – but it isn’t just that – it is your AMAZING photography skills. Unbelievable. Just wow.

Best wishes on baby #4 – that is a very big deal! My little sister has four and it got crazy once children outnumbered us, haha. : – )

    1. Talk about the nicest comment EVER, Michele! You are so so sweet. Thank you very much for all your comments and well wishes! xo

  6. So beautiful! I tried cutting redbud branches to use in vases on the mantle in vases for Easter but they wilted and I got them right down the road from my house, made fresh cuts and put in water. How do you get them to last? Also I love the shutters in your bedroom. Are they plantation and do you have an affordable resource on where to purchase? Thank you.

    1. What a bummer! I didn’t want to fill that huge vase with water (and my branch didn’t have a very long stem), so I wrapped the bottom in a very wet paper towel and a plastic bag. Oddly enough, mine hasn’t wilted too much. In fact, it has kind of dried. I have to be careful not to bump it too hard because the flowers fall off, but they still look pretty. I have no idea if it was my technique or pure luck that made it work! And the plantation shutters are custom. They were already installed when we bought the house. Sorry I don’t have more info.

    2. THIS one “L” Michele agrees with the first Michele too – Rachel, you are truly the best photographer in blogdom. Holy moley your spring pics are amazing – and your compositions just stunning.
Love your home, your style, your humor – this was a great inspiration! Even though I woke to two inches of snow on the ground today! Will winter never end?????
I have seen your tours but going back for more Rachel Awesomeness.

Prayers for you and your family with the baby coming. God bless.

      1. I hope your winter WILL end soon, Michele! And thank you so much for the kind comments. I have been working hard on my photography– loads of practice.

  7. Your kitchen is so stunning! I love how bright, open, airy, fresh, clean and cozy it all is! These are fantastic ideas, I love how you decorate with “natural” elements, those are my favorite to decorate with and they always work so well when it comes to beach decorating!
Thank you for the wonderful post.
