It’s no secret that I love me some Carrara marble. In fact, I not only made it the focal point of our kitchen (with both honed marble countertops and a honed marble backsplash), but I even confessed a deep-seeded attachment to the stone for interiors (in a totally normal and not-at-all creepy way 😉 ).

So it’s probably no surprise that when – after almost five years of living in this home – we decided to finally tackle the master bath renovation, I knew it would involve some Carrara marble.

So I set out to gather some marble bathroom inspiration… I’ll be back soon to share our actual design plans for the bathroom remodel (though you can follow along on Instagram in real time if you want!), but for now, I just want to celebrate the versatility and beauty that can be found using marble in the bathroom.

20 Bathrooms with Carrara Marble

Classic Marble Bathrooms

I think gray and white marble makes the perfect classic backdrop for luxury. It’s beautiful paired with simple white subway tile and antique clawfoot tubs.

In our super traditional historic colonial, a marble vanity top and marble tile for the flooring was perfect for our small master bathroom makeover.

Rustic Modern Bathrooms with Marble

But if formal isn’t your thing, then white marble can go much more rustic or modern when paired with other elements.

These marble stone countertops with primitive shiplap, matte tile, and a floating vanity make for an edgy modern farmhouse look.

I love the addition of wood elements against the shower walls of this beautiful walk in.

And the simplicity of the curvy modern tub in this beautiful space by Studio McGee balances out the traditional large marble wall tiles and the busy-ness of the veins.

But my favorite is probably this space (also by the talented Studio McGee) with traditional marble subway tiles in the shower, marble mosaic tile on the floor, a light wood vanity, and mixed metal accents.

Marble and Gold Bathrooms

Carrara marble can be extremely glamorous, so it’s no surprise that it’s beautiful paired with brass fixtures. Just look at this marble shower by Mandarina Studio.

Marble Bathrooms with Black Accents

But you’re not limited to traditional chrome, transitional polished nickel, or even fancy gold finishes, Carrara marble pairs beautifully with matte black fixtures, as well. I love the simplicity of the contrasts in this shower by Kristal Kelly Design.

And the black freestanding tub and windows in this white marble bathroom by Amy Carman Design? So good.

  1. Thank you so much for all these ideas on how to use marble. It’s like eye candy… I just can’t get enough. Love how you mixed the wood, polished nickel and painted cabinets in your bathroom. Can’t wait to see how your master bathroom turns out!

  2. I used it in our master bath reno as well and I have absolutely no regrets. What was a dated 1980’s bathroom (complete with hollywood lights and glass blocks!) is now a beautiful and timeless space. I think that’s what I love most, it will never look dated and you have endless possibilities for finishes and color pallets if your tastes do change.

  3. Absolutely love the collection. But isn’t marble supposed to porous and absorb the moisture and water in the bath ? Is there a sealant that we use to keep it from absorbing/staining ?

Another question is that ., Won’t the marble be slippery when wet ? How do we avoid these in real-time use ?

    Thanks,
    B.D.

    1. Great questions! Yes and yes. 🙂 I absolutely recommend sealing your marble, and you can read all about how I seal my marble kitchen countertops here. As for slippery, there are a few solutions. First, tumbled marble is much less slick than honed, and honed is less slick than polished, so that’s something to consider when choosing flooring. Second, grout is not slick, so the smaller the tiles, the more grout, the less slippery it is. Finally, if it is a large area, then rugs or bath mats can help, as well. I hope this helps!

  4. I am planning to use Fantasy Brown (grays, white and soft browns) marble for countertop, backsplash on countertop and around tub deck; soft cream beige porcelainn tub skirt and floor. If I have enough marble left over, I had thought of using it as a border in the shower, but don’t know what tile/color to use on shower walls. Would appreciate your advice.

    Thanks.

    1. Fantasy Brown is a beautiful stone, but it usually has a lot of pattern/variation to it, which makes me think that something simple in the shower might be nice. Perhaps you could try to capture an off-white from the marble? You could even consider a plain tile laid in an interesting pattern. I hope this helps!

  5. Beautiful bathrooms! What color grout would you recommend for the white subway tile (on walls) when you put marble tiles (on the floor)? Light grey? medium grey?

    1. I find that lighter colors are more traditional and last beyond the trendier grout colors.

  6. I never use Marble, it looks great but engineered Quartz has marble patterns that are Carrara styled. It’s tougher and easier to care for and usually slightly pricier. Love the pics though. Good work!

  7. I am changing the flooring in my foyer and I would love to have a honed marble entryway. Do you have any photos of foyers with marble and what paint color would you suggest for the walls? Thank you!

    1. I’m sorry, Ginger, I don’t have any foyer floors with marble gathered right now. I found most of my marble bathroom inspiration on Pinterest and design sites. I hope you’re able to find what you’re looking for! And with natural stone, I would definitely recommend trying paint samples with the actual stone you choose. There is so much room for color variations with natural stone that it’s better to compare the åctual stone to the paint color. I hope this helps!

  8. I am starting master bath remodel in a 1920s tudor. I am doing a honked marble on the floor and the walls will be a combination of marble subway and white shiplap. I am not sure if I should do the marble on the top or bottom half of the walls. Any thoughts
    Thanks

    1. Sounds beautiful! I would be inclined to put tile on the bottom half, as that flows with the flooring and acts as a splashguard. I hope this helps!
