Decorating for Summer in 10 Minutes

Summer is meant for playing and exploring. These quick summer decorating ideas will have your home feeling summery in no time.

Yesterday officially marked the beginning of summer in our home. We’ve been swimming since March (and by “we” I mean my kids who are somehow magically impervious to the freezing cold water); school ended mid-May; we took a week long (and much needed!) family vacation to the beach, and temps have hit 90 off and on for a few months.

So why do I say that summer has just begun? Because yesterday was the beginning of no plans. No commitments. No school. No activities…. Just me and the kids at home all day.

It sounds great, doesn’t it? The relax-er in me begins dreaming of the games, books, and naps we can enjoy…

And the do-er in me starts listing all the projects I want to tackle.

And then the realist in me says, “Are you kidding?”

My kids – now 2, 4, and 6 years old – are undoubtedly one of the great joys of my life, but they don’t allow for much relaxation or productivity when they’re home all day. I’m not complaining; I’m just being honest. So when it comes to “summer decorating,” I don’t have much time to spare. That’s why I keep it simple: in 10 minutes or less, I can bring a little touch of summer into my home.

For me, the quickest two ways to change the feel of a room are new throw pillow covers and flowers. So I decided to move out the winter whites I’ve had in my living room for a while now and bring in some bright whites and a little nautical stripe. Changing pillow covers only takes about 5 minutes (all sources listed below).

With the other 5 minutes, I clipped some flowers from my garden and put them in bottles on the mantel.

These gorgeous roses actually came from my mother’s garden. She clipped them for me the other day as a little happy anniversary gift (Mr. Pax and I just celebrated 12 years!!).

Gorgeous, easy, and done in about 10 minutes. Which is all I can spare in the summer. 😉

    1. Thank you so much, Heather! And yes, though my kids are begging for sunshine, my yard definitely loves the rain! 🙂

  5. My Blue hydrangeas, with all of the refreshing rain here in S.E. Georgia, are illuminating our back yard this summer. Wish I could send you some; they would fit right in with your color scheme. Love the bottles on your mantle. Have a nice summer.

    1. Oh Shirley, that would be amazing! I’ve always wanted hydrangeas, but they never seem to survive the dry summer heat here. Enjoy them for me!
