Guest Post: Jenna from Rain on a Tin Roof

Well, friends, I am very pleased to tell you that Mr. Pax and I are getting some much needed R&R this weekend while grandparents stay with Little and Littler Pax. Hooray! Because of that, I have the privilege of introducing to you a fun new friend, and I’m sure you’ll love her work as much as I do. Jenna is an adorable southern gal, and I thrilled for y’all 😉 to see this gorgeous project she’s sharing. Thanks for being here, Jenna!! I’ll see you all next week…

Hey there! I’m Jenna from Rain on a Tin Roof. I am so happy to be sharing here at Maison de Pax today. Rachel is a great gal with some absolutely amazing ideas and style! I am often left drooling after reading her posts! Thanks for having me today, Rachel!

A little about me:

Jenna from rainonatinroof.com
First off, I am terrible at “About Me-s.” In fact, so terrible, that I use pictures (entertaining ones) on my own About Me page at Rain on a Tin Roof. Its quite comical. In short, I’m a southern gal who loves some serious thrifting, crafting, re-purposing, and home diy-ing, which is what my blog is all about. This decorating thing started early for me. While other 14 year olds wanted to read Seventeen, I was reading Christopher Lowell’s Seven Layers of Design (Does anyone even remember Christopher Lowell?!), and re-arranging my bedroom. I can handle a power saw with the best of ’em, but tend to make my Grunt Labor (hubby) use the power tools. (It makes him feel special to be needed. Total reverse psychology, y’all.)  A comfortable, eye-pleasing room just warms my soul, and makes me dang proud its mine. I love turning something old and decrepit into something new and amazing. I even started carting my daughter around to yard sales when she was a month old, its important to train ’em early around here. My whole decorating mantra is to do it frugally. Thrift it. Craft it. DIY it. If this hasn’t bored you enough, you can read more about me here.

On of my biggest passions is re-vamping furniture. I am a sucker for old pieces of furniture that are just begging to be beautiful again. This is my latest re-vamp:

Isn’t she a beauty? I love love love the gray and white contrast. She had humble beginnings:

She was pretty beat up when I found her on Craigslist. The bottom right drawer front was actually off when I brought her home. Grunt Labor fixed it for me. I gave her a good cleaning and a light sanding.

For the body, I mixed up some homemade chalk paint with a simple white paint sample I had on hand.

For the drawers, I mixed up more homemade chalk paint, but this time I just played with colors to come up with a custom gray color. I started with white and added some dark gray left over from the french country chest makeover

It took about two coats of the gray on the drawers and three of the white.

I kept the original hardware (love that style) and gave it a fresh coat of white spray paint.

I’m happy to say this piece, hmmm, she needs a name………I shall call her Vivian, is already in a new happy home. Vivian sold within five days of being listed!

Have you done any furniture makeovers lately? If you have, leave a link in the comments so I can check it out! I LOVE seeing furniture makeovers!

I would also love to have you visit me over at my blog
