Looking for easy appetizer ideas? This goat cheese appetizer board requires zero cooking, is full of fresh fruits and veggies, and looks absolutely beautiful. Simple and delicious!
I admit, I ran out of steam when it came to cooking at about month 2 of quarantine🙈… but my girls recently wanted to have a little “fancy food,” and it was just the motivation I needed to put together one of my favorite easy summer appetizer recipes: honey goat cheese, crackers, and fresh fruit and veggie toppings.
Best part? No cooking required! Simple, fresh ingredients (perfect for summer!) and easy to customize to your own preferences, this appetizer spread is so simple. Go ahead, have it for lunch or dinner… I won’t tell. 😉
Goat Cheese and Honey
I have always enjoyed goat cheese, but I developed a special obsession appreciation for it when we were living in Paris. Every Tuesday and Saturday morning, the outdoor market stalls were set up at the end of our block, in the shadow of the Eiffel tower.
While gathering my fresh fruits and veggies, my weekly rotisserie chicken, some crusty bread, and a dozen or so fresh eggs, I usually couldn’t resist a small dose of chevre: soft, smooth, creamy goat cheese.
My absolute favorite way to eat it was spread on a slice of hearty, crusty bread, drizzled in honey, and toasted lightly. I could (and did) eat that for lunch almost every day in our little Parisian apartment.
So I wasn’t surprised at all when I fell in love with the honey goat cheese I found at our local grocery store a few years ago. It brings back all the nostalgia of the fresh chevre and honey drizzle of our time in Paris.
Creating an Appetizer Board
I have since discovered that I am allergic to wheat, so spreading the honey goat cheese on rice crackers has become my favorite little snack. But this little appetizer bar would be excellent with slices of baguette or chunks of crusty bread.
Add a summer salad, and you have a full light lunch.
You can serve it with any sweet and savory toppings you like: fresh fruit and veggies are my favorite, but jams, dried fruit, nuts, or cured meats would also make wonderful extras. You can create the bite-size snacks yourself, or simply serve it all separately.
My favorite way is to serve up a few and leave the ingredients available, as well.
If you prefer something more savory, feel free to use regular goat cheese or even herbed goat cheese… But I highly recommend the honey. It’s sweetness is a perfect balance to the rich, creamy, tangy goat cheese.
