Modern Farmhouse Kitchen
Love modern farmhouse style? This DIY modern farmhouse kitchen will blow you away: shiplap, open shelving, color blocking, butcher block counters… all affordable and super stylish!
__________
This is the second installment of this incredible modern farmhouse makeover. See part 1 (a full house tour) here. You won’t believe the transformation on this home.
I have quizzed the poor homeowner for as many actual sources as she can provide (though warning: many are thrifted or vintage – they did this on an incredible budget!) and included those where possible. I have also included some “Get the Look” suggestions of similar items you can find online if you’re interested. This post also contains affiliate links. Click here to read my full disclosure policy.
GET THE LOOK:
I know (because I shared a sneak peek on Instagram a few weeks ago) that the kitchen is everybody’s favorite space in this house…
And why shouldn’t it be?
wall color:Droplet by Dunn Edwards (color matched at Lowes) | cabinets | giant T | counters | sink | faucet | rug: Craigslist
The transition from the “before” is really remarkable.
Because of that, I wanted to devote an entire post to sharing the details of this incredible space.
dishes | cabinet hardware | light fixture | sink | faucet
The before really helps you appreciate just how complete the transformation was.
With all new cabinets and butcher block counters from IKEA, a farmhouse sink, new lighting, and planked walls…

This space screams modern yet charming.
I love the thrifted rustic art and brass accents.
light fixture: Ikea| table: thrifted | stools: Target| crate and wall art: thrifted
And the DIY hood is beautiful, isn’t it?
My other favorite detail is the hidden storage cabinet above the refrigerator. Brilliant.
It has been so fun to befriend and be inspired by this amazing family. I hope the next step on their journey is fruitful and fulfilling, and I – for one – cannot wait to see what they do with their next space.

Beautiful kitchen.
Are butcher block countertops head to maintain?
So glad you like it! I don’t have butcher block counters now, but I did have them for the two years we lived in Paris. They are more delicate than stone, certainly, but they are also much easier to fix if they are damaged. In the two years that we had them (they had been previously oiled by the owner of the flat), I took some light sandpaper to them and a fresh coat of oil either once or twice… I can’t remember. So yes, they take a little maintenance, but it’s not an outrageous amount. I hope this helps!
Very pretty! What model is the sink? We need to replace our cracked ikea farmhouse apron sink. It is full counter depth with the faucet as a part of the sink. I.e. no countertop between the back of the sink and the wall. They don’t seem to carry it anymore! HALP!
I don’t know the exact model of the sink (this is a friend’s past home), but it is Ikea. I noticed they still have this apron sink in stock: https://www.ikea.com/us/en/p/havsen-apron-front-sink-white-s79253725/
Thank you Rachel,What a beautiful idea! The colors of the kitchen are just perfect and the idea to add things to the door makes it even better.
So glad you like it! 🙂
Where did you get the stove?
I’m sorry, it’s not my home. I think my friend says they got it at Lowes, but I’m not positive.
I have found so much inspiration from this photo for my own kitchen remodel. Thank you 🙏
I am so glad it was helpful!
Where did the white shelving come from?
My friends purchased a lot of items from Ikea, but I am not quite sure about the shelving!
It looks amazing Rachel! I just saw this on Pinterest and had no idea it was your photo. BEAUTIFUL JOB!
Awww… thanks, Deb!! xo
where is the sink from?
Hi Brooke! The sink is from Ikea!
Make? Model? Name?
Hi Brooke!
This post was from a friend’s home, so I don’t have the exact model or name, but Ikea generally only has a few options and perhaps, not an exact match to this one. The website might help you find a similar sink.
Hello! What color are the cabinets?
They were a stock black color from IKEA, but I’m afraid that line may not be available any more.
Hey! What kind of flooring is in the kitchen?
Hi Mackenzie! The flooring is an engineered floor. You can read more about my choices here: https://www.maisondepax.com/engineered-wood-flooring-for-the-home/
