DIY Crate Bookcase
This has to be the easiest DIY I’ve ever done.
Remember the little reading room I created for my kids? I’ve had some questions about the bookcase in there, and I wanted to give you all the specifics.
Are you ready?
- Buy crates like these.
- Stack them however you like.
- Stick stuff in them.
You can paint or stain them if you want because they are raw wood. Or you can be lazy indecisive like me and just leave them until you decide. 😉
I feel like I should offer a disclaimer: I did not attach mine to one another or to a wall, but I do NOT promise that this will be safe for your kids. Since our bookshelf is in a corner, on carpet, and rather difficult to accidentally push over, I feel totally comfortable just stacking them. If you were concerned, however, it would be easy enough to screw them into the wall to secure them.
And that’s it. I told you it was easy. 🙂 And it’s perfect for an odd shaped room like our little closet. But I also think it would be a fun and asymmetrical piece on a regular wall – maybe offset with some creative artwork.
What do you think? Does this win for the easiest diy project ever?

MORE KID FRIENDLY PROJECTS:
Great DIY! Old world style wood crates like that add a warm and bright look to any decor and they’re easy to create unique projects with. Have you ever worked with original wine crates? They can also be painted or stained and have the added bonus of a wine-themed accent.

What fun and functional book cases. I am sharing this on Pinterest.
Thank you so much! So glad you like it. 🙂
The link to where you purchased these crates is not working for me. Where did you get them?
I’m so sorry to hear that! They are from Joann’s; hopefully you can access them here.
