Jack and Jill Bathroom Design

This gorgeous Jack and Jill bathroom remodel is done in navy and white with marble and brass accents, creating a sophisticated, classic yet modern look.

Remember our crazy news we found out just two days after we ripped out our kitchen last fall? Well, all that excitement led to one partial room makeover, one total room makeover, and one major renovation of our jack and jill bathroom… I’m exhausted just thinking of it all. 😉

I shared a before and after of our newly renovated jack and jill bath as well as some tips for budgeting a bathroom renovation like this a few weeks ago, but after several reader questions, I wanted to let you see a fuller view of the space and how it fits into our home. First thing’s first: what is a Jack and Jill bathroom? It’s a bathroom with two doors that connects two bedrooms (or sometimes a bedroom and a hall).

A few readers asked if this was a Hollywood bath, and while it’s similar, I believe Hollywood baths officially have three rooms: two half baths (with just a sink and vanity in each) which come off of each bedroom and one shower and toilet room between them. Whatever you call it, this space functions for us as a shared bathroom for our girls and a bathroom for overnight guests (since my older daughter’s room doubles as the guest room).

As such, I wanted it to be pretty and sophisticated…

Light, bright, and clean feeling…

Have non-slip floors (tumbled marble is a great option for that!)…

And be functional for the little people that use it.

I am still searching for the perfect step stool, but for now my daughter uses one from her room to help her reach the sink.

Since it doubles as our guest bath, I didn’t want a lot of childish art. I’m feeling the need for minimal these days anyway (something to do with four kids probably – ha!). So walls of white tile and a few plants were enough for me. Tip: succulents and airplants LOVE bathrooms! You almost never have to water them because they suck the moisture right out of the air.

And how fun is this view from the shower?!

I love how the bold navy and classic white and marble complements the light, whimsical spaces I’ve created for my two daughters. My older daughter’s stenciled wall

And my infant daughter’s flower wall art seem even more feminine and lovely next to the rich navy cabinetry.

My three year old adores her new bathroom almost as much as she adores her baby sister. 😉  You can see the joy on her face as we were most of the way through the renovation (please forgive the grainy iphone pic). Seriously, this was not staged; she just turned around as I was trying to take a picture of the progress and said, “it’s so beautiful!”…

And now that we’re finished, I am just relieved to have this little wing of the house done. With a toddler and an infant and their various nap schedules and early bedtimes, it’s a blessing to have these three rooms completed and beautiful for the next few years.
