White Cottage Living Room
Today’s favorite space is a stunner: a gorgeous white living room with french cottage elements, beautiful textures, and many affordable diy elements. And even better, the sweet gal sharing it with you is one of my favorites. Cami is also a mother of 4 (she inspires me that it is possible to keep my sanity in this new stage of my life!), and a beautiful lady inside and out. Welcome, Cami!
Tell me a bit about yourself and your blog.
Hello Maison de Pax readers! What an honor it is to be here for Rachel while she enjoys a little baby time!
Let me tell you a bit about myself and my blog. My name is Cami, and my blog is called TIDBITS. I am a mom of 4, married to an amazing DIY kind of man, and together we love to improve and customize our home to fit our lifestyle and design preferences. I love adding and refreshing decor, but our favorite thing to do is take a “before” kind of room, and make a stunning “after”. See all our spaces we’ve done so far, HERE.
You’ll also find my sister Marci sharing recipes and delicious food on TIDBITS. If you are embracing the “Instant Pot”/electric pressure cooker trend (which you totally should!), we’ve got many tips and recipes, to teach you how to use this amazing appliance.
Our cookbook we worked on together will hit stores in September, and feel free to click over to read about how we felt doing this together, what more is in store, and where you can pre-order the book at a discounted rate.
What is your favorite space and what is its function?
Surprisingly, my favorite space so far, is the very first one we gave a refresh to when we bought our 1990’s home. Our living room is spacious, full of light, and get’s changed around a lot! I’ve got a bad case of “musical chairs”, and love to refresh this space by switching furniture around, rugs, blankets, throws, etc. I think it is this concept that keeps me loving this space so much. I truly believe that if you need to fall in love with your home again, a little space re-thinking, a good clean, and fresh flowers is all you need.
This space is a favorite of mine for all the memories we make in here as well. We spend lots of time playing games, enjoying movie night, playing pretend, and relaxing together in here. I also find myself escaping to this light filled room to prop my feet up and flip through my favorite books and magazines.
How would you describe the style of your space?
I’ve always referred to my style as a mix between a Cottage on the Coast and a Farmhouse in France. Whites and soft blues are my go-to colors, and I can’t ever resist giving it a refresh when a new season rolls around.
My husband is a woodworker at heart, and so we love to find room for old wood in each space. I prefer to keep my home as uncluttered as possible, and decor as simple as I can get it.
Are there any DIY projects or elements in the space?
DIY is how we roll! This mentality began when we were broke and going through collage, and now continues because we prefer to give anything we can our own custom look.
If it involves woodworking, my husband makes it.
If it involves fabric or sewing, I make it.
And paint. There is always lots of paint!
Photography is my favorite form of Art, so I’ve enjoyed making my own images to hang on my walls and offer those prints for others to enjoy as well. Be sure to check out my Photography Shop HERE.
Do you have any favorite memories or fun stories that have happened in this space?
Our living room is where forts are made, stories are told, snuggles are had, and creations take shape.
It’s also where I ask my husband to do ridiculous things, like hang a giant chalkboard, while straddling stairs on a ladder.
Because of the great light in here, it’s also where I took all the images for my sister and I’s Master the Electric Pressure Cooker ecookbook and upcoming published cookbook.
It’s a multi-function space for sure!
Do you have any future plans for the space?
I can’t imagine I will ever stop changing around this space. Because it is founded on neutral colors, I get to switch the color scheme whenever I want, just by adding new rugs, pillows and throws.
We are also replacing the flooring very soon, so be sure to follow me along to see what we picked!
What advice would you give a reader who was interested in creating a similar feel in his or her home?
If you love a bright fresh space, I think we have lots in common! I don’t think you can ever go wrong with the color white and the warm texture of woods. If you feel overwhelmed by reclaiming your home, begin by removing absolutely everything from your space, and only adding back the items you love and need. Less is always more.
If you have enjoyed seeing a glimpse into our home, I’ve got lots more where that came from!
Stop on over to visit me at TIDBITS and I’ll share more inspiration for do-it-yourself living. I’d love to have you JOIN MY NEWSLETTER to get all my updates and exclusive news.
Thank you so much for reading! Thanks for having me Rachel!
Hi Rachel,
I love the script writing on the white pillow. What is that called and do you know where I can find it in a beach theme? I am making a barn wood door. I also am looking for a Seahorse Stencil for the same project and would like to use the script writing in the background. Any ideas would be so appreciated. Thanks! Debra
