Small Bunting Baby Shower Centerpiece

I recently hosted a luncheon / boy baby shower for my sweet friend, and I confess that I really struggled with what to create for a centerpiece. The shower theme was just “boy,” and it was at a restaurant, so I needed some portable and simple table decorations that wouldn’t take up all the space on the table for plates or block people’s view and ability to converse… I was so glad when inspiration struck.

Another total aside (I’m letting my ADD get the best of me today!): Yes, I photographed this on top of this gorgeously weathered industrial spool top; come see how I made it into a clock here.

And I was able to create this baby shower centerpiece with things I already had! Best kind of project. 🙂  Especially if you’re a procrastinator like me. 😉

How to make tiny paper bunting:

Here’s what you need:

  • two colors of cardstock
  • embroidery thread or string
  • two sticks (I used kabob skewers)
  • glue (I used hot glue – yay for fast!)
  • two bottles
  • dried beans (I used navy beans)
  • marker (I used a chalk marker because the white showed up beautifully on the navy cardstock)

It really is as easy as it looks. Just cut your paper into little flags (I used two of each color per letter so that the string could hide between the layers) and glue them onto the string. Wrap a little string around the stick and glue it in place. This will give you a place to tie the bunting on without it slipping down the stick. Fill the bottles with dried beans and stick the sticks in.

And voila! Navy and gray bunting. I’m loving the little paper flags.

Totally adorable, masculine, and special. It would make a great cake topper, too!

With the addition of my chalk painted mason jars (tutorial here) and some tissue paper flowers, I had plenty of baby shower decorations that brought ambience without crowding the table.

What do you think? Could you use this bunting centerpiece for a baby shower or birthday party? How about writing F-A-L-L or G-R-A-T-E-F-U-L and using them for Thanksgiving? (And I said this wasn’t a fall post – what was I thinking? 😉 ) Endless possibilities!
