Rustic, Industrial Playroom Decorating Ideas

Family is a number one priority in decorating and designing my home, and I simply love how my sweet friend April from House by Hoff created this adorable rustic, industrial playroom for her daughter. The space has so many great decorating ideas, I’m thrilled she’s here to share it with you today!

Hello! I’m April, and I blog at House by Hoff about decorating, DIYing, and, really anything I feel like rambling on about. 😉 I am a mom to my five-year old daughter, and married to my high-school sweetheart. I recently left the teaching profession after ten years and am now writing my blog and running my photography business full time. It’s a dream come true for me to finally be able to make this leap from one career to a completely different one.

Rachel and I have known each other for a few years through blogging events, but I got to know her even better last spring when I came to Austin for the Lowes Spring Home Makeover. Let me tell you, Rachel is as smart, calm, cool, and collected as she appears on her blog. She was given the title of “VIP” from that makeover marathon because of the way she was able to keep everyone sane and moving in the right direction…she’s the real deal, people! (I won’t divulge the nickname I was given that weekend, as I don’t think Rachel allows swearing on her blog…ha!)

Today I’m sharing my favorite space in my house with you. It might come as a surprise to you, but my favorite space in our home is actually my daughter’s playroom. It’s the happiest, cutest, sweetest room that I designed just for her. Since she is an only child, I find myself hanging out and doing lots of puzzles, or coloring with her on the rug. It’s just a place we like to hang out and spend time together.

We added this shiplap wallpaper to her playroom last winter. It instantly added character to the room. I should also mention, that I use this room as an indoor photography studio in the winter, and the wallpaper is the perfect backdrop for photos!

One DIY from this room is her chalkboard table and chairs. One of the first blog posts I ever wrote was how I transformed a kids’ table and chair set (that I found at a garage sale) into this chalkboard table and cute chairs.

This colorful triangle art is one of my favorite things in this room. When decorating her playroom, I found myself using more colors and being more playful with the design than I am in the rest of my house…I think that’s what makes this space so happy. 🙂

Another favorite spot is her little reading nook. She sits in her little rocking chair and reads her stories, and it’s all just so cute!

At one time, I thought I might actually use this space as a work space myself…which is hilarious to me now. How did I really think that a kid’s play space could also be a work space? I built this DIY Piping Table, which is now just another place that she likes to sit and color, create, and be crafty.

Thanks for checking out my favorite space today! I’d love to have you follow along on all of my decorating shenanigans over at House by Hoff!

  1. I love the print you used! Where did you find it. My husband is a photographer and this would look fantastic in his studio.
