Spring Home Tour (Part 1)
Simple and serene styled spring home tour (part 1)
Rather than bombarding you with 60+ images of my home this spring (yikes!), I’ve decided to break my spring home tour up into three parts this year. Today should be fun: a brief overview of our home freshened up for spring PLUS 10 creative ways to display flowers and greenery.
If you are visiting for the first time from another blog on the Cozy Spring Home Tour (aren’t they all amazing, by the way?!)… Welcome. If you haven’t visited the others yet, be sure to scroll down to the bottom to find the links.
As I was going through the millions hundreds of images I took (seriously, you’ve heard of a lead foot? I think I have a heavy shutter finger…), I realized that out of more than 15 places where I used (real or fake) flowers and greenery, I had only one real vase.
And it got me thinking… I know there were years when I didn’t think “decorating for spring” made much sense because I didn’t want to spend the money (nor did I have the available counter space) for fresh flowers and vases. Do I love them? Absolutely. Are they the only way to bring some touches of spring life into your home? Not at all.
Last year I shared 10 ways to freshen up your home for spring. Today, here are 10 non-traditional ways to display flowers or greenery (plus one super fun trick I’ve found):
1. Rain boots
Who doesn’t love this quirky touch? I’ve used it in years past, and it just doesn’t get old. If you want to use real flowering branches, put a mason jar of water in the bottom.
2. Cups
These succulents planted in moscow mule mugs (tutorial here if you’re interested) are some of my favorites. In my favorite teak bowl? Even better.
3. Wreaths… somewhere other than the front door
I love my diy eucalyptus wreath, and it’s perfect above the mantel on an antique window.
4. Cloches
This little plant loves this spot under this cloche.
5. Tobacco Baskets
Fresh eucalyptus from the grocery store (which has since dried) acts as a perfect bedding for Peter, our Easter bunny.
6. Buckets
I’m working on centerpieces for my brother’s upcoming rehearsal dinner which will be outside at a nature sanctuary… Rustic elegance is the goal, and I think this bucket works perfectly. Some $4 grocery store alstroemerias and dried lavender and we’re set. Too bad I’m having to enjoy them in my home in the meantime. 😉 (You also might recognize it from my recent picnic post; I couldn’t resist moving it inside to enjoy it longer.)
7. Decorative bottles
This one on my mantel happens to be mercury glass (which I love), but you could use almost anything – old wine bottles, soda bottles, and more can make a lovely, non-traditional vase.
8. Vintage bottle crates or tool boxes
This one happens to be a bottle crate, but I’ve seen many antique toolboxes with a similar shape and handle, and I think they make beautiful flower holders.
Here is a fun bonus tip for the day: did you know that you can remove the heads of most artificial flowers without damaging them? Just grasp the head near where it meets the stem and pull gently… The head comes off, allowing you to use them as I did here, but you can always put it back on the stems later if you wish to display the flowers in a traditional vase.
9. Baskets
These fiddle leaf figs have fought long and hard. They were in pretty sad shape when I bought them (on clearance for $8 each, I might add), and then I confess that our move (when they were left in the summer sun baking for several days) and my generally black thumb hasn’t done them much good… But they are slowly reviving. I know there’s nothing revolutionary about storing your indoor plants in baskets, but I do love how they add texture that a pot never could.
10. Demijohns
This is the closest I’m getting to a vase in today’s suggestions. I love the look of floral displays in demijohns because of how they branch out from the small opening at the top. And as a bonus, it only takes a branch or two to make a major statement.
What do you think? Does that help you think outside the box a bit in displaying spring flowers and greenery? I’d love to know what other fun ways you like to do so. And if you would like to see more of our home decorated for spring, be sure to come back Friday and Monday as I will be sharing the rooms more in detail. Happy spring!

Everything looks wonderful as usual Rachel. I love the different ideas displaying flowers and greenery. I’m with you love the idea of something in boots.
I’d be totally okay with you bombarding me with 60+ images of your home decorated for spring. Loved all of it, Rachel! I don’t know how you do it sometimes. You’re super mom blogger. 😉
I love your Home. Many greeting from the other side of the world. Lovely greetings debby from Germanys whitegreyhome
Your creative ways to display flowers is so so great. I think it helps that I love all your simple vignettes and photography. The bunny on the table! My fav!
Thank you so much, Rachel! xx
Rachel your home is just stunning! Can’t wait to see the next part of your spring tour!
I agree, you have such a stunning home! Such pretty greenery too – just lovely!!
Gorgeous! 😉 Simply gorgeous!
What a beautiful spring home tour Rachel. I love how relaxed and inviting your home feels, the rustic touches and deep rich colors work so well with the airy farmhouse feel. xo
You are so kind, Alicia. Thank you so much!! xx
Beautiful home! If I may ask, what color is your dining room painted?
Thank you so much! The dining and living rooms are Agreeable Gray by Sherwin Williams. I hope this helps!
Absolutely beautiful! I especially love pic #4…would you share paint colors on the walls, armoire? I like the lamp too! Thanks, I look forward to seeing more of your decorating style.
Thank you so much! The walls are Agreeable Gray by Sherwin Williams. The gray armoire is Dovetail, also by SW. I’m so glad you like it.
Where in the world did you find that amazing chair in your living room? (The one under #7 with the white pillow on it)…..that is exactly the kind I have been hunting for!
Do you mean the dark gray one? It’s the Lorraine chair from Restoration Hardware. Wait for a sale and with the right options (I chose duck fabric in fog), they are actually not much more than overstock or some other “cheaper” option. If you meant the light gray tufted chair, it’s from Homegoods. Hope this helps! 🙂
Sorry, I meant the gray one! I will check out restoration hardware for sure….is the chair pretty comfy?
That’s ok! The tufted chair also had a white pillow, so I wanted to be sure. 🙂 I hate to say it, but that’s definitely my least favorite thing about the chair. I wouldn’t call it uncomfortable by any means, but it’s not super cozy. It is beautiful, though, and has held up very well to our crazy family… Go sit in one before your order to make sure you like it, though. Hope this helps!
Thanks for giving me the colour of your bedroom paint. What is the paint in the living areas such as the living room with the fireplace and 3 rounded windows? And the dining room? Such lovely colours.
Thanks Anne
You are so welcome, Anne! You can actually find all the paint color info in my home on my home tour page. I hope this helps!
