Decked the halls? Check. Gave all your loved ones amazing gifts? Check. Celebrated the New Year with a bang? Check. All only to be left staring at your disorganized piles of holiday decor and feeling overwhelmed by the mess?  Please tell me that it’s not just me who feels this way! Out of necessity (sanity matters, friends), I’ve come up with a super simple way to organize the holiday decorations.

Simple Christmas Decoration Organization:

At our home, we want holiday decorating to be something in which everyone can participate… and we want holiday clean up to be something in which everyone can participate, too. 😉 . This simple system (which I’ve spent a few years honing) is easy enough for my 3 and 5 year old to follow and help with. I’ve put together a little video for you explaining it all. If you enjoy my tips and videos, I’d love to have you subscribe to my channel on YouTube!

Now for those of you who prefer to have things in writing…

Tips for organizing Christmas decorations:

  1. Decide how much space you have and limit yourself to that.
  2. Use clear plastic containers that fit your space efficiently.
  3. Group like items with ziploc bags.
  4. Enlist help.
  5. Sort into bins by color.
  6. Use cardboard for light strings.
  7. Label clearly.

  1. So smart! I’m a mess when it comes to putting holiday decor away – I toss it all into bins and hope for the best, haha. Maybe next year I’ll get organized!

  2. What a great idea to put the labels on the INSIDE of the box, rather than outside where it can tear off… and no tape needed!

  3. Thank you so much! One other thing–maybe you mentioned it somewhere else, but what is that gorgeous garland over the mantle in these pictures? Is it still available somewhere?

  4. Lovely ideas! Usually all my decoration a mess and it is a struggle to deal with it every season. I will try your tips and organize everything this weekend.
