Changes in the Dining Room

While photographing our home (in honor of actually having every room clean at the same time putting our house on the market), I realized that I never officially shared the changes we made in the dining room when we added the French doors out to our new patio. So today is the day… I give you our simple French dining room.

The room has always been big, but since the addition of the French doors (and the light they let it), it has felt especially large.

In order to provide better access to those doors, we moved the China cabinet to a different wall and moved the brown buffet to the living room (you can see it in my spring home tour here if you like).

Through the swinging door (one of my favorite features of our 1940 colonial) is the newly renovated butlers pantry (see the full tour here) which leads right into our gorgeous new, classic white kitchen (tour it here).

As you can see, we have opted for an eclectic look in our chairs (aka don’t let the 2 and 4 year old boys eat on antique upholstered chairs! 😉 ). But seriously, I like the addition of these industrial chairs. We have a bunch more out on our patio through the French doors, which provides a connection between the two spaces if we entertain using both.

The dining set, which I recently painted, belonged to my great grandmother (full tutorial here). I love the new look; I think it complements the rest of our home beautifully – definitely better than it did when it was yellow and green.

My little old window screen turned chalkboard is one of my favorites…

And my new diy trumeau mirror rounds out the French flavor.

I realize it’s a bit minimalistic, but since we eat every meal in here, it’s important to me that it feel uncluttered and clean.

What do you think? Do you find it too sparse or do you appreciate the empty space like I do?

    1. What color did you paint your dining room? It’s what I’m looking for to enhance my French furniture with golds, reds, and greens?

  1. It is a lovely room. The table and chairs are a beautiful piece of furniture, besides being a family heirloom, that is really great. All the work you have done is really wonderful,Rachel.

  2. Rachel,
I think it’s wonderful! I am leaning toward my spaces being more clean and uncluttered. It has taken some time to arrive there, but I really feel better in the space when it’s cleaner – decor-wise. Is that even a word? Haha I love everything you do! Our styles are very similar. Keep up the great posts & decorating in your home. I’ll be here!

    Be blessed,
    Cathy

    1. I totally think decor-wise is a word. I’d like to think I’m decor-wise, rather than decor-dumb. Haha!! Ok, I’ll stop cracking myself up… I’m so so honored that you enjoy the blog. Thank you, Cathy!! xx

  3. P. S. Where did you get that small glass jug on the dining table, most of them are too large for my use? Thanks!

    Cathy
