Casual, Chic Coastal Living Room

As part of my maternity leave, I’m excited to branch out a bit and share some new spaces with you (because – let’s face it – my house is far from camera worthy at the moment!). If you’ve been following me for a while, you will know that (other than my recent departure into the world of blush) blue has my heart. If it’s not white or gray, it’s blue at Maison de Pax. 😉  And the space I’m about to share with you below does blue so so well. A casual, chic coastal living room with lots of blue and green and plenty of character… I know you’re going to love it. For today’s space, I’m excited to introduce you to my sweet friend Chelsea. Enjoy!

Tell me a bit about yourself and your blog.

I’m Chelsea, wife, mama, and maker of things. I am pretty obsessed with creating a beautiful home and that means roping my husband into a lot of DIY projects. Over on my blog, Making Home Base, I share our journey to creating a home that fits our family, one that is a lived in and loved.

What is your favorite space and what is its function?

Our family room. It’s where so much of our every day happens. We watch movies as a family or sit around the coffee table and play games. Some days our sofa holds mounds of laundry and some days it’s full with blankets and just two little snuggling girls.

How would you describe the style of your space?

Our living room has a very coastal casual feel. I love decorating with blue and white. I want everyone to feel comfortable grabbing a blanket and plopping down on the sofa.

Are there any DIY projects or elements in the space?

Do you have any favorite memories or fun stories that have happened in this space?

Since it’s the heart of our home there are tons of meaningful memories for me in this space. Honestly, some of my favorite memories in this space before it looked like this. When we first purchased our home, my younger daughter was only a week old. We would play music and she would sleep soundly in the pack and play while we ripped up carpet and painted the walls. We had so much fun those first few weeks. Life was so hectic but it was so fun.

Do you have any future plans for the space?

We just finished painting the entire room white and I love it. I would like to do some furniture rearranging and possibly add in a love seat or another sofa soon.

What advice would you give a reader who was interested in creating a similar feel in his or her home?

My advice to anyone decorating their home is create a home that fits your family. Our home has a casual style because we are really casual people. Nothing is off limits in our home and we like it that way. Consider function as much as beauty!
