Traditional Modern Living Room Design

Living room Design Board with online sources. Get the look with my mood board.

It’s official. The only thing more fun than decorating your own house is decorating someone else’s.

Think about it.  You can create, dream, design… and you don’t have to pay for it (*wink*).

Though I am generally refraining from interior design consultations these days so I can spend more time at home with my family, I made an exception for my little brother recently. He just moved into a new apartment, and he was ready to upgrade from his hodge podge of hand-me-down furniture he has had since college. He wanted masculine but not bachelor pad, modern but not stark, and comfortable but stylish. He likes mid-century styles but he didn’t want the entire room devoted to that, and he knew he wanted some blues in the mix. Here is what we came up with (all sources are linked below).

Three of the things you all requested on the reader survey a few months ago were room design ideas, budget decorating tips, and suggestions for decorating as a renter. I’m excited to use this design as a spring board to discuss all of those topics. In the meantime, do you have any more specific questions about those topics? Leave me a comment, and I’ll be sure to try to incorporate the answers into my follow up posts on this gorgeous living room!

  1. I would love to know more about how to choose colour combinations for rooms please. I often see pictures of spaces I love and that work really well and I’ve recently noticed that they all have colour combinations I would never think of so I’d like to know how people come up with their schemes.

    1. What a great question, Mandy! I’ll definitely try to work that into the next posts. Thanks!

  2. Thanks for using my art as inspiration! It looks perfect in his space and I love the design plan you came up with!
