Do as I say, not as I do…
Remember that advice I gave on Monday about taking things one step at a time?
Throw it out the window.
And while you’re at it, let down your hair or loosen your tie or whatever it is you do to feel just a tad freer.
Because sometimes, when you find a 5’x7′ neutral but-not-boring natural fiber rug for $120 half off at $60, it’s time to veer from your course and make an impulse buy.
Truth be told, you were already veering off the straight and narrow by going to Hobby Lobby to buy dresser knobs when you were supposed to be finishing the half bath, but we won’t tell anyone. 😉
All joking aside, I do think this is one of those lessons in creating a beautiful, layered home on a budget.
Sometimes, you can’t find everything you need for one space at one time.
Sometimes, you have to replace the rug from your former entryway because your big grand staircase in your new home won’t allow the old rug to fit.
And when you find something the perfect size that blends with your other rugs…
And maintains that neutral, casual, textured feel you love…
It’s time to jump on it. It’s another one of those reminders that the art of living requires balance between discipline and spontaneity.
And a reminder to check Hobby Lobby’s rugs when they’re 50% off. 😉 You’re welcome.

MORE DECORATING IDEAS:
I was in a thrift store buying a red blazer to turn into a Revolutionary soldier uniform costume for my grandson. While checking out I spotted a beautiful blue and white piece for my living room.$10. I don’t even know what to call it. It has a beautiful shape and a lid. But I love it!
From Revolutionary soldier uniform to a beautiful piece for your living room… I love it, Nancy! Thanks for sharing!!
I went to Habitat for Humanity to just look and found the most beautiful butcher block island. The butcher block itself is about one foot thick. It has two drawers for utensils and two drawers for potatoes and onions. It truly is a little big for our kitchen but I just love it and use it every day.
Butcher block a foot thick? Yes, please! It sounds like a gorgeous piece, Patty. 🙂

I am with you… that is why it takes time to go and buy just what you need because you have to check out the other aisles just in case there is a good buy!

You are so kind, Miriam. Thank you!
Yep! I agree:) Looks great! And thanks for the heads up on the Hobby Lobby sale. I’m looking for an outdoor rug, so I’ll keep my fingers crossed!
Can you tell me about your entry floors? They are exactly what I’m looking for.
I’m so glad you like them, Heather! You can see more details about my floors here. If you still have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask. Hope this helps! 🙂
Beautiful! I have eyed this rug at Hobby Lobby for a while! I always feel like the jute rugs at HL are extra pungent in odor. Did you have this issue? If so, how long till the odor faded? Thanks for sharing your beautiful foyer!
I don’t remember noticing that with this rug, but there’s a chance my brain has blocked out the memory. 😉 I’ve been really happy with it!
