Preparing [my heart] for a First Birthday

Can I just confess something?

I am not crafty. Creative? when inspired. Inventive? when necessary. Resourceful? definitely. Crafty? ……. *crickets chirping*……. At least that’s how I feel, especially when trying to get ready for Littler Pax’s first birthday party.

The Planning
His birthday is Friday. I emailed invitations last Tuesday. ‘Nuff said.

The Production
I want it to be fun, celebratory, cute, and practical. That, my friends, is why I’m currently rolling my eyes at myself as I attempt to cut out bunting… What was I thinking?? I hate kindergarten crafts!

The Perspective
We love our son. We love our family and friends. We are SO blessed to have them all in our lives. May this upcoming party be one of joy and love. Even if we eat off mismatched paper plates. Even if it rains and our “backyard barbecue” becomes a living room picnic. Even if nothing is color coordinated and everyone leaves hungry. No matter what happens, I hope I can keep my heart in the right place.

Am I the only one? The only one who has to work to make sure that the preparations for good things do not become a bad thing? I hope not…

  2. I am the same way. Luckily, used the bunting I made for Karis’s first birthday for Charlotte. AND, will use it again for Karis in a month. The bonus of having two girls. I tried to keep this one simple for Charlotte and succeeded. Karis’s first was much more elaborate and I didn’t enjoy it half as much. 🙂

    1. Hey V! So glad C’s was fun… I made bunting for O’s first one, too, but left it in Paris. 🙁 It didn’t make the cut for essentials that had to come back with us. He has already asked to use this one for his birthday coming up, though. Perfect!!
