Claude Monet is famous for saying, “I must have flowers always and always.” I couldn’t agree more! It wasn’t until we lived in Vegas several years ago that I realized the importance of having fresh flowers and the necessity that they were for me. I needed that weekly fresh flower run to the supermarket like the desert needs rain. They made a big difference for me and I loved having them in my house. After we moved away, I continued my weekly trip for fresh flowers and have enjoyed them in my home ever since. There are so many fabulous ways to use floral in your home besides putting them in a vase. Today I’m sharing 5 ways to decorate your home with flowers.

Use a non-traditional vessel, perhaps a pitcher!

Not that getting fresh flowers every week is boring, but I do love to change it up with trying different types of flowers as well as pulling out some of my pretty pitchers and placing my flowers in them.

A few months ago, I shared a dozen ways to add “glam” to your home. One of those were displaying gorgeous fresh flowers in beautiful vessels. I chose hyacinths, flowers that I had never remembered purchasing before, and not only learned how to care for them but I also chose a beautiful marble glass pitcher that I had just received. It was such a lovely way to welcome Spring into my home.

I also use one of my favorite white pitchers from time to time for fresh roses or other flowers. Take a look around your home. What else do you have that you could use, besides a vase, to display your fresh flowers?

Don’t be afraid to invest in some fabulous faux floral stems.

Have you shopped floral stems in craft stores lately? These are not your grandmother’s faux flowers. In my Spring Home Tour this year, I shared this fabulous arrangement I made and the company I ordered these gorgeous stems from. If you find some high-quality or silk stems and are willing to pay just a little more for them, they can look so much like real flowers and are such a great alternative. Not only will they last longer, which I always appreciate if I’m leaving town and not sure if my family will take care of them, but they are more friendly to your budget if you’re trying to pinch your pennies.

Peonies are my favorite. My only complaint is that peony season comes and goes all too quickly. But if you want to have peonies all year-long, read how in THIS post. I’ll give you a hint… they’re faux! But they are so gorgeous. If I can’t have real peonies all year, I’ll settle for some lovely faux stems. There are so many ways to display them. Treat them as if they’re living flowers and it’ll make it easier.

One of my favorite flower arrangements to date is the one I made this Easter for my table. I have always wanted to create a fruit and floral arrangement and so I finally made one and I love the way it turned out. It was so fresh and pretty. In this post, I share exactly how I did it.

If you don’t have time for a larger arrangement, try something simple like this. Just display your fruit where it’s easily accessible, like on your kitchen island, and add a single flower in something like a tea cup or small jar.

Think outside the box and use flowers for wall decor.

If you follow me on my blog or on Instagram, you probably know that we recently made a big move from Dallas, Texas to Vancouver, Washington where we are currently building a home. Back in Dallas, my 11 year-old daughter took the lead on designing her tween girl bedroom makeover. For a control freak like me, that was huge. She did great though!

Of course, I helped and had input, but I let her choose everything. Even if there were a couple of little things I would have done differently, it turned out beautifully and I was so proud of her. One thing we both agreed on were these gorgeous paper flowers for her walls. It adds such a fun pop of texture and added elegance. We are tweaking the design of her new bedroom just a bit so stay tuned as we move in this September.

Don’t shy away from floral fabrics and wallpaper.

I was born in the late 70’s and I remember growing up in the 80’s with floral everywhere. Not the groovy orange and yellow patterns from the decade past. I’m talking the maroon and forest green floral drapes and wallpaper at my grandmother’s home. And at our home, my mom had country blue and mauve floral with hints of geese decor. Sound familiar? I’m laughing as I type this. I know, we are all thinking, “That was so obnoxious. What were our mothers thinking?” But here’s the thing…we all love floral and we decorate what’s “in” at the time. That was the style then and it was lovely, believe it or not. Luckily, things have changed but our love for floral patterns doesn’t have to.

I loved finding these soft neutral floral-patterned curtains. These are definitely NOT my grandmother’s or my mother’s floral curtains.

Last year I wanted to add wallpaper to my blush and gold office but we were renting and knew we were moving soon. I didn’t want an entire wall or room wallpapered anyway so these DIY Framed Wallpaper Panels were just enough and I really liked the way they turned out. If you want to try out floral wallpaper, I highly suggest that you try these panels.

If you’re not ready to try floral wallpaper or floral window treatments, try starting with a simple pair of floral-patterned pillows like these. They are another perfect way to decorate your home with flowers.

I hope this gives you some inspiration. I love florals, in any form, and they add so much beauty to my home. And to echo the words of Claude Monet, “I must have flowers always and always.” Merci beaucoup to Rachel for having me as a guest today here at Maison de Pax!

  6. Hey Rachel, I loved this post but I just wanted to suggest a specific flower. Although often associated with funerals, lilies are the most beautiful flower that is overlooked for home decorations! Are you a fan?

  7. My mom always associated calla lilies and funerals while I think of them as art deco and gorgeous. On the other hand, to me, gladiolas are funeral flowers. I’m growing as many stargazers and callas as I can but never glads. I wonder if it’s the era in which you grew up?

Honestly, I don’t care for farmhouse, no shiplap and barn doors for me, no baskets on the wall, too dusty. But your photos and your guests all present such lovely serenity, I can’t get enough!

  8. Hey Rachel, Amazing post, i didn’t realise how much of a difference flowers make to a place. LOVE the pitcher by the way shown in picture.
