Finishing the Upstairs Office {Finally!}
Do you remember the amazing built in bookshelves that Mr. Pax built recently forever ago? And all my grand promises to finish an amazing office for him right away? Well, it may be almost two years late, but here it is.
This room started with an uneven laminate floor. After leveling the subfloor, laying hardwoods, building bookcases, and finally decorating, I am so pleased with the relaxed yet crisp and clean result (just in time to move, naturally 😉 ).
The final push (other than staging the house to sell) was a new desk.
When it arrived, I couldn’t resist putting in in front of the gorgeous built-ins…. I love how the rustic/industrial wood color contrasts the bright white bookcases.
And the simplicity of the desk juxtaposes the busy-ness of the shelves.
But it just wasn’t totally functional in the middle of the room, so I found a new spot for it (oh, and please ignore the photo bomber in the bottom left corner… I just noticed. Ha!).
Under the window, next to our vintage file cabinet.
I think it’s the perfect place.
I love the industrial black accents…
And I think the wood tones are a lovely balance for all the white.
The whole space has a kind of vintage vibe: with the file cabinet…
And this piece that belonged to my husband’s grandparents.
I feel like the office has character but still feels crisp and clean.
What do you think? Please tell me I’m not the only one who has taken a two year break while decorating a room!
That is a wonderful old piece from your husband’s family it adds to the homey atmosphere of an office. Office’s always needs something personal in it besides your desk and computer,i think. What was that to the left of the picture!!! lol
Hehe. It was the baby! I knew she was crawling around while I was photographing, but I thought I managed to keep her out of the pictures… Obviously, I was wrong! Thanks so much, Marlene. 🙂
gorgeous! Mr. Pax is one lucky dog.
Awww… thanks, Cynthia!
The office looks great, and that desk is the perfect fit!
Thanks so much, April!
Amazing desk! It looks great with that chair too, Rachel. And yes, HUGE breaks all the time. 🙂
Haha… I’m glad I’m not the only one! 😉
I just found your site and LOVE it…we closed on our vintage home TODAY! The task is almost overwhelming with how much work has to be done….
Could you tell me the gray paint color used here??
Thanks!
I’m so glad you like it!! This room is Gauntlet Gray by Sherwin Williams. 🙂
