How to Create a Fresh and Cozy Look for the New Year
The New Year is a time of new beginnings… A chance for a clean, fresh start. And I, for one, want that same sense of beginning anew to be present in my home. To remind me of the hope, joy, and peace available each day.
After the flurry of Christmas – the decorations, holiday treats, and busy company – our homes need a breather (at least I know mine does!). So after every Christmas box was back in the attic, I found myself putting a very few finishing touches on my home… keeping it light and simple. And in the process, I found 10 easy things you can do to create a fresh and cozy look for the New Year.
1. Light Neutrals
There’s nothing like the crisp, clean slate of whites and creams.
2. Textured Textiles
Faux fur, silk, and linen can all bring depth and warmth to your space.
3. Cozy Throws
Speaking of warmth, who doesn’t love a blanket to cuddle under? Even better, make it a diy love note throw.
4. Simplicity
After reindeer, holly, ornaments, and mistletoe, a little simplicity can speak volumes.
5. Places to Connect
Lots of indoor time during the long, cold winter months… Spaces like this game table [and, if you’re like us, a couple decks of Uno] provide hours of endless fun.
6. Extra Pillows
Anywhere, everywhere… And it can’t hurt to encourage people to sit down and take off their muddy winter boots by the door. 😉
7. Natural Elements
The pumpkins and Christmas trees of the last seasons may all be gone, but nature is just as lovely in its winter whites. Bring a little indoors and create organic beauty with pinecones, branches, or logs.
8. Winter Whimsy
A touch of fun is needed year round, perhaps most of all during these short, dark days. I love this pillow by my friend Lucy; the little owl has become one of the family.
9. Light
Speaking of short, dark days, capturing what little light there is can be so essential. Keep your curtains wide open and consider reflective surfaces to amplify that sunshine.
10. Greenery
A touch of green brings life to every room and the promise of Spring to come.
Here’s to new beginnings, clean slates, and fresh starts…
