Chalkboard Party Hats
I think the real question of the day is this: How completely have I brainwashed my almost 4 year old to have him request a “chalkboard” birthday party?!?!?! Does that make me evil? No, seriously, I can’t remember if he saw me painting his chalkboard easel (which I did do with the rough idea that it would be helpful at the party) before he requested that or not… but I guess there’s something to the power of suggestion. 😉
I hope you saw the party favors I shared last week (I’m telling you, those little monogram chalkboard slates are the best! My kids have LOVED them!). This was one more fun-for-any-age and super easy way to bring a little style to a simple backyard spring birthday party.
All the little girls at the party (and, let’s be honest, some of the adults, too!) ran straight for the little table to make their own party hat. They may not have worn them for very long… but they sure enjoyed decorating them and smiling for photos!
And they were so easy to make. Here’s what you need:
- black card stock
- party hat template (like this one)
- scissors
- hot glue
- pom poms
- electrical tape
- stapler
- super thin elastic (if you want a string to keep it on)
- chalk
After cutting out your card stock, hot glue a pom pom to the very tip of the point (which side of the paper is facing up really doesn’t matter).
Next, using the template’s directions, mark the spot for stapling your string and use a small piece of electrical tape (I found this reinforced the card stock and kept it from ripping).
Finally, flip it over (so the pom pom is facing down) and staple your string to the electrical tape.
For the party, I simply put the flat hats on the table with a bucket of chalk and a stapler. If you really want the hats secure, a line of double-sided tape and then a staple holds them together perfectly. Let the children (and young-at-heart!) be creative and enjoy themselves…
The results are adorable!
You’ve done it again!! I’m so loving this!! Thank you so much again for sharing!
