A St. Patty’s Day Ode to Green

Happy Saint Patrick’s Day! Top o’ the mornin’ to ya!

Who am I kidding? I’m not Irish; I would be impressed if I even remembered to wear green today… But I couldn’t resist an opportunity to be a little cheesy. 😉  Though green is not one of my go-to colors, I have enjoyed two little pieces for sometime now, and today seemed an appropriate day to celebrate them.

This little green dresser was originally orange and came (in pieces!) out of my grandmother’s attic. It was in a sad state. But some repairs and a little satin latex paint in Sweet Annie (by Olympic, I think) made it adorable. Most of the paint had already chipped off the top, so I sanded it clean and left it natural.

Though I tend these days to prefer chalk or milk paint and wax finishes, this was one of the easiest makeovers I’ve done, and it has help up beautifully for at least 5 or 6 years. Plus, the dresser is the perfect height for a changing table, making it and excellent accent piece for the nursery.

It goes to show that fabulous makeovers don’t always require expensive techniques and complicated supplies… Sometimes just a little imagination and elbow grease can go a long way! I even painted this little side table to match. This was my first experiment with “aging” a piece using stain. I don’t love the streaky look, but it’s not too shabby for a shot in the dark by a gal who had no idea what she was doing, is it?

And other than my faux oxidized and my chippy chalk painted side tables, I think that might be the only green in my whole house. But hopefully I’ve remember to wear some today or someone will tell my three-year-old he can pinch me and that’s a battle I’m pretty sure I’ll lose! 😉

Do you have any fun green accent pieces in your home?
