Getting in Touch with my Feminine Side…

You know it’s baby #3 when you’re almost 29 weeks and you realize you haven’t even announced the gender…

You know it’s baby #3 when you’re almost 29 weeks and the full extent of your preparations include one wooden stool and two storage bins you found at Home Goods (when you were actually there for something else)…

And you know it’s baby #3 when you’re almost 29 weeks and the soon-to-be nursery is piled high with everything from the attic build out and laundry room renovation…

BUT more importantly, here’s the big announcement: this house full of boys is about to gain a little feminine influence. I know I’m a girl, and I obviously have some rather feminine interests (baking, sewing… I even studied ballet for years), but I grew up with three brothers and have always been surrounded by boys. This will be quite a change.

And I’m thrilled, naturally. Apprehensive… but thrilled. Though my progress may be slow practically non-existent, I do have a general vision for the room. The agreeable gray walls in the room currently (you can see the reveal of my son’s nursery from last summer) and the “antique” painted frame will remain in some form.

The Restoration Hardware knock off crib I made for him will be perfect for little girl, as well. And though I intend to use mostly soft grays and creams, like the ruffled curtains, I can’t resist a touch of pink – especially this darling stool that matches one I already had for my boys.

And these fabric bins will be wonderfully useful. The pink is a bold choice for me, but I think if I keep it limited to just accents, it will be lovely.

Especially with some other accessories like my birdcage.

What do you think? Do I have a decent start? At least mentally if not physically. 😉

  1. Coming from a non-girly girl, who ended up having the girliest girl EVER, you’re gonna love how she changes your world and opens your eyes to things you may have never considered before. It may just be me and my experiences but boys and girls bring balance to a house – for every war game there will be a tea party, balance.

    1. Thanks, Keya! I am so looking forward to that balance… and the adventures I’m sure it will bring along with it! 😉

  2. You have a great start! I’m nearly 25 weeks with baby number 2 and in a similar state of mind I think, although there’s limited prep I need to do really as our first son will only be 20 months when this one is born and it’s also a boy so I’m pretty much just getting stuff out and making a door sign for this one to go with the already existing one as well as making a few blankets and probably browsing Etsy for some new nursery decor… so maybe I do have a bit to do!
Anyway, congratulations on your little girl 🙂 I love the stool, so cute!

    1. Thanks! It’s amazing how easy it is to let things slide on your second and third pregnancies, isn’t it?! Good luck with your second little boy – I LOVE having two boys close together!! 🙂
