Chippy Chalk Paint Side Table
I’m excited to share another piece of my play room progress today. I had to organize the toys and make the chalkboard labels myself, but for this special project, my three-year-old got to help. Love. those. projects.
I’m still working on the play room conceptually… I know I want lots of light (hence the white walls and partially white furniture) with a crisp, clean feel. But I also want fun color to stimulate smiles and imagination… Maybe a slight bohemian flair balanced with textured neutrals…
Honestly, I’m still a bit all over the map. But I recently had the opportunity to try a new chalk paint product, and this is where my creative impulses led me.
The process was fun and simple:
- clean with a damp cloth (no sanding necessary – yay for chalk paint!)
- paint the entire piece green
- give my 3-year-old a silicone basting brush, a plate of vaseline, and “free reign” to paint it wherever he wanted
- paint the entire piece white
- gently scrape the surface with a plastic putty knife and watch the white paint chip where the vaseline was applied
- sand other areas lightly, as desired
I love how the randomness of the chips looks natural, yet the crispness of the colors makes it modern.
For now, I put one of my bright silk scarves in the glass-front drawer.
Like I said, this is an evolving design plan… but I love that my son helped me. He’s so excited about his green table. If you’re interested, the green is “rustic charm” by Country Chic Paint, and the white is “vanilla frosting.”
And it’s definitely a good start to our clean and bright playroom.
Full Disclosure: I was not paid for this post, but I was given supplies by Country Chic Paint to try… and I loved them!
I just tried this paint for the first time on a drop leaf table and loved it, too! Your table came out fantastic! Love the layered paint!
