Easy Seasonal Decorating

Though I love to decorate the entire house for Christmas, I’m not big on redecorating the house for every other season, holiday, or weekend. Let’s be honest, if I had the time, I might enjoy it… but life with toddlers keeps me a little busy. 😉

One of the easiest ways I have found to create a little seasonal ambiance without dragging tubs of decor down from the attic is to change out a few large photographs throughout the house. I love black and white photography, especially, because it goes with any style – modern, classic, and even rustic… it’s all about how you frame it.

We lived in Paris for two years, so I especially love incorporating stereotypical Parisian scenes into our home.

And this one, with the whirling snow, was the view from our living room window on the first snow of our first Christmas there… Be. still. my. heart.

But any gorgeous European scene with stark, bare trunks certainly does the trick, like this one from Oxford, England.

Another wonderful thing about changing out photographs for a seasonal touch is that you don’t have to store them… Just leave them in the frame, putting the appropriate season in front.

  1. I decorate with santas and snowmen for Christmas but then when I take the tree down I also pack away the santas. I leave the snowmen and snowflakes out til I get cabin fever and need to put out some things to help me thru the long winter and make the house feel like spring is on its way.
