Personalized Fire Chief Helmets

Come on, everyone needs a personalized fire chief helmet, right?

You don’t? Oh…. Well maybe not everyone. But at least everyone who attends a 3-year-old Fire Truck birthday. I’m finishing up just starting preparations for my son’s birthday… which is Saturday. Oops. Keeping it simple this year!

All you need is plastic fire hats, cardstock, scissors, chalkboard contact paper, and a chalk marker.

I ordered the Firefighter Chief Hat Plastic Child (Set of 12) from Amazon. At 12 for $6, you really can’t go wrong. Unfortunately, the cheap stickers come already attached, and they’re not easy to get off. So I just covered over them. I used my Commercial Chalkboard Contact Paper, Black, 18 Inches x 6 Feet and the Chalk Ink 6mm Classic Wet Wipe Markers, 4-Pack, the same ones that I used to make One Day to One Year picture frames and the Homemade Bubble party favors for my other son’s birthday.

I made a quick stencil. To do so, I roughly traced the fire chief stickers that were already on the helmets, folded that paper in half and cut slightly larger than the current stickers. Folding the paper in half before you cut ensures that your shape will be even. Finally, I cut out the same shape in cardstock to make tracing on the contact paper quicker.

I then traced my stencil twelve times and cut out the stickers.

That’s it! Not rocket science, and done in about 15 minutes. Perfect. 🙂  And by that, I mean totally imperfect because, let’s be honest, three year olds don’t care that much!

I think they’ll be really fun, though, and the birthday boy has already enjoyed quizzing me repeatedly on which hat belongs to which friend… Got to love the inquisitiveness of this age!
So come on, admit it, you want one… 😉

  1. These are great! what did you use to glue the stickers onto the hat? How do you make sure it doesn’t keep coming off?
    thanks,

    1. I’m so glad you like them! If you follow the link, you’ll see the chalkboard contact paper. It’s actually self-adhesive. So I just cut them out, peeled off the back, and stuck them on. They worked like a charm! 🙂

      1. Thank you for your response! I ordered those and do plan to try them out this weekend 🙂 Any tips on the writing with the chalk ink marker so that the text is not smudged?
Thanks again! I am excited to make these 🙂

        1. I hope you have fun with them! My only tip is to make sure you let it dry completely before you let the kids play with them. Once they’re dry, mine have stayed beautiful! 🙂
