There is something about an old door…

It not only evokes an appreciation for the aesthetic, but it incites curiosity and inspires contemplation.

Maybe it’s because of the knowledge that the door is only the gateway, with the unknown lying just beyond.

Or maybe it’s just because doors walk the delicate line between the practical mundane and the artistic display.

Whatever their magic, doors, especially old ones that seem to posses a story, have established their place as more than mere utilitarian objects.  The recent obsession has led to a variety of creative methods of repurposing old doors, and I wanted to share with you some of what has inspired me about them lately.

I already shared this picture when I mentioned my recent acquisition of a gorgeous old door (for free!), but I love it so much I thought I’d share it again.  It’s a beautiful use of an old door as a room divider:
